PURPOSE:

To promote youth participation, sportsmanship and excellence within CORHA & NRHA.

AWARDS:

Senior Division (age 16-18)
1st Place: $1,000 2nd Place: $500 3rd Place: $250
Junior Division (age 13-15)
1st Place: $500 2nd Place: $250 3rd Place: $125
All participants will be recognized at the CORHA Year End Awards Banquet, October 28, 2017.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be age 13- 18 on January 1, 2017.
  2. Complete application (including 5X7 photo) and submit to Youth Committee no later than Sunday May 7, 2017.
  3. Must be 2017 CORHA member and have been a member of CORHA in 2016.
  4. Must show in at least 50% of the 2017 CORHA approved shows.
  5. Complete essay on assigned topic (500-700 words) – SENIORS ONLY
  6. Complete 8 hours of CORHA community service. All activities must be approved by the Youth Committee before participation. At least three (3) activities must be completed: Winners Circle photo's and/or candid photos, Egg & Spoon, horseshow set-up, grounds clean up, show office assistance, and restock coolers. All applicants must shadow a scribe.
  7. Applicants must plan and participate in the Youth Weekend Party which will be overseen and approved by the Youth Committee and held during the July 2017 CORHA show.
  8. Each applicant must shadow a trainer (other than their own) for a minimum of one hour while the trainer is schooling a client and/or horse. Complete a 150-250 word summary on new techniques and/or insights that were learned. The essay will be submitted at the August 2017 Show.
  9. Each applicant will interview with (3) Directors from the CORHA Board at the July show on Saturday July 8, 2017.
  10. Each applicant will supply an item for the Silent Auction held at the Year End Awards Banquet. Deliver to Youth Committee member at August 2017 show.
  11. Each applicant will be required to sell a minimum of 10 tickets for the NRHyA raffle.
  12. Point deductions will be applied to all late applications and other missed deadlines at a rate of one point per day.
  13. CORHA and the Youth Achievement Award Committee expect all youth participants to maintain a high level of sportsmanlike conduct and will penalize participants for negative behavior.
  14. A Service Packet will be given out at the May 2017 CORHA show.

Applicants will be scored on the following:
  1. Completeness of application (25 points, Due May 7, 2017).
  2. Essay: content, grammar, presentation (100 points, Due July 9, 2017).
    SENIOR DIVISION ONLY
    Essay Topic: Describe a person you admire and why.
  3. CORHA community service (75 points, Due August 6, 2017).
  4. Interview assessment (100 points, will be held Saturday, July 8, 2017).
  5. Fundraiser – sell CORHA Youth Raffle tickets (50 points, Due July 8, 2017). Drawing held Saturday, July 8, 2017.
  6. Shadow a Trainer report (75 points, Due August 6, 2017).
  7. Participate in Egg and Spoon Fundraiser (25 points, activity runs at May, June and July shows).
  8. Participate in July Youth weekend activities (50 points)
  9. Silent Auction item (25 points, Due August 6, 2017).
  10. NRHyA ticket sales (minimum of 10 tickets sold=75 points or 5 points per ticket sold under 10, Due August 6, 2017).
